The endodontics in Barcelona is one of the most common procedures in. As you already know, it is a technique that consists in remove the nerve or dental pulp of an affected tooth; then, the pulp cavity is filled and sealed, restoring the functionality of the damaged tooth, avoiding its extraction and ending the pain. But what exactly is an uniradicular endodontics? We tell you.
When is uniradicular endodontics used?
Teeth can be classified according to the number of roots. In this sense, uniradicular endodontics is performed in those dental pieces that have only one root. Within this classification, the following types of teeth are found:
- Incisors.
- Canines.
- Premolars (except the upper first premolar).
Characteristics of the different types of teeth
However, these types of teeth can be differentiated according to the following characteristics:
- Type I: there is only one canal from the pulp chamber to the end of the root.
- Type II: it has two ducts coming out of the chamber, but which later join to form a single duct.
- Type III: there are two independent ducts from the chamber to the apex.
- Type IV: the duct leaving the chamber then separates into two different ducts up to the apex.
In the event that the pulp of any of the teeth mentioned above is irreversibly affected by deep caries, trauma, fracture or periodontal disease, pain, sensitivity to cold or heat or even a change in color will appear. In this situation, it is essential to perform an uniradicular endodontic treatment. In principle, this is the simplest procedure, since it is easier to locate the root canal.
Likewise, uniradicular endodontics is also advisable when too severe milling has been performed to place bridges or crowns.
Finally, the duration of an uniradicular root canal is related to several factors such as the patient’s previous oral health or the infection status of the tooth. As a general rule, it is the procedure that takes the least amount of time, requiring between one and two sessions of between one and two hours each.
It should be noted that it is not a complicated procedure, but it is performed under local anesthesia to prevent the patient from suffering any discomfort.
