In any case, it is very important to follow the specialist&#8217;s instructions before stopping the intake of a drug or substituting it for another one.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Botulinum toxin injections: <\/strong>a very effective treatment for hypersalivation is the injection of botulinum toxin into the salivary glands. This treatment will be recommended only in those cases in which hypersalivation is caused by an excessive production of the salivary glands, which will be partially plugged with botulinum toxin (Botox), thus reducing their activity.<br \/>\nThe advantage of this treatment is that it is very effective and immediate, but its disadvantage is that the results are not permanent: the effect of the injections will last approximately six months and will require maintenance.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Surgery for hypersalivation:<\/strong> in severe cases or when a permanent solution is sought, surgical treatment for hypersalivation is recommended, which consists in the removal of some salivary glands to reduce production, or to ligate the saliva-releasing ducts.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This surgical treatment is recommended only in patients who have not improved with other treatments and whose hypersalivation prevents them from leading a normal life.
